Oglio bridge faces funding crisis after denied ministerial grant

The bridge over the Oglio river, connecting the municipalities of Robecco d’Oglio and Pontevico, faces a potential closure due to a lack of funding for extraordinary maintenance. A request for a 2 million euro grant from the Ministry of the Interior was unsuccessful, leaving local administrations to seek alternative resources.

Options currently being considered include regional or national funds, municipal budget reorganization, or external financing. The local administration in Pontevico is also evaluating the possibility of phased construction to manage costs or, as a last resort, incurring debt.

Technical assessments conducted by engineer Fausto Minelli between 2022 and 2023 indicate that significant maintenance is required. While the bridge remains passable with a weight limit of 44 tons per lane—a status valid until March 2029—failure to secure funding could result in the infrastructure becoming unusable after the next technical verification scheduled for that time.
