Ogun State and DP World sign $7bn deal for Nigerian deep-sea port

The Ogun State Government and DP World have signed Memoranda of Understanding in Paris to develop the Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Nigeria. The project involves an initial investment exceeding $7 billion and is projected to create more than 50,000 direct jobs.

The Gateway Deep Sea Port, located at Ogun Waterside, is designed with a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft to accommodate larger vessels. This infrastructure aims to alleviate congestion at the Lagos port corridor, specifically the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports.

Complementing the port, the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone will span approximately 10,000 hectares. The initiative seeks to create an integrated production ecosystem by linking maritime logistics with manufacturing, processing, and international trade. The Nigerian Federal Government plans to support the development through road, rail, and power connections, including links to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
