Ogun State and DP World sign $7bn deep seaport and economic zone deals

The Ogun State Government and DP World have signed Memoranda of Understanding in Paris to develop the Gateway Deep Seaport and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone. These projects are expected to attract an initial investment exceeding $7 billion and are projected to create over 50,000 direct jobs upon full operation.

The Gateway Deep Seaport, located at Ogun Waterside, will feature a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, allowing it to accommodate larger vessels. This development aims to decongest the Lagos port corridor and reduce pressure on the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports. The seaport will be integrated with the 10,000-hectare Blue Marine Special Economic Zone, which is designed to support manufacturing, processing, and export-oriented industries.

President Bola Tinubu, who witnessed the signing, assured investors of regulatory clarity, policy stability, and institutional support from the Federal Government. He noted that the projects are vital to Nigeria’s economic diversification and will provide a competitive gateway to the African Continental Free Trade Area market.
