Ogun State Assembly passes pregnancy termination bill and pardons ex-deputy speaker
The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the ‘Ogun State Safe Termination of Pregnancy Law, 2026’. The legislation aims to reduce maternal morbidity and mortality, promote reproductive health rights, and establish legal conditions for the safe termination of pregnancy.
Additionally, the 10th Assembly resolved to pardon former Deputy Speaker of the 9th Legislature, Hon. Dare Kadiri. The Assembly converted his 2021 removal from office due to allegations of gross misconduct into a voluntary resignation. Lawmakers stated the decision was intended to allow Kadiri to conclude his public service in a dignified manner rather than to revisit the circumstances of his impeachment.
Other bills that reached the first reading include the Gender Balance in Political and Public Offices Bill, 2026, the Victims’ Rights Bill, 2026, and the Ogun State Human Sacrifice Prevention and Prohibition Bill, 2026.
