Ogun State begins $7bn deep-sea port construction and logistics expansion
Construction of the $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone is scheduled to begin in November. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun announced that a groundbreaking ceremony will precede immediate construction, with the project expected to reach substantial completion within two and a half years.
The port project follows a $7 billion agreement signed between the Ogun State Government and DP World MEA FZE in Paris. The development aims to transform Ogun Waterside into a major West African maritime hub and is supported by federal infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
In a related expansion of its Nigerian operations, DP World is deepening its logistics footprint through a partnership with TGI Group. A subsidiary of TGI, 22 Plus Invest Limited, is set to acquire a 43 percent stake in DP World Logistics Limited from UAC of Nigeria Plc, subject to regulatory approval. While DP World will retain majority ownership, the deal combines global supply-chain expertise with TGI’s local distribution network to enhance road freight and contract logistics services across Nigeria and West Africa.
