Ogun State building collapse kills senior nurse Oluwaseun Sodiya and daughter
A two‑storey building on Baale Road in Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State collapsed around 3 p.m. on Monday after heavy rain. The structure housed ground‑floor shops and residential apartments above. Senior Nursing Sister Oluwaseun Sodiya, 45, a member of the Penpushing Media planning committee, and her daughter were trapped and later found dead; their son narrowly escaped.
The bodies were recovered the following day and placed at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary. Funeral arrangements were set for Friday at Akorede area, Ajilete. Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun ordered a full multi‑agency investigation, with his Special Adviser Kayode Akinmade noting that preliminary findings point to a catastrophic structural failure, while further forensic analysis will determine whether foundation defects, soil instability, construction flaws or substandard materials were to blame.
