Ogun State Council Sends Four Crime Bills to Assembly
On July 30, 2026, the Ogun State Executive Council approved four legislative proposals aimed at strengthening security and protecting residents. The bills – the Group Liability for Offences of Violence, Extortion and Secret Societies (GLOVES) Bill, the Victims’ Rights Bill, the Human Sacrifice Prevention and Prohibition Bill, and the Missing Persons Bill – target violent crime, cultism, extortion, ritual killings and the problem of missing persons.
Attorney‑General and Commissioner for Justice Oluwasina Ogungbade explained that the GLOVES Bill will hold every member of an unlawful group jointly liable for crimes committed by fellow members, while the Victims’ Rights Bill will create a statutory framework to protect and support crime victims throughout investigations, bail, prosecution and incarceration. The Human Sacrifice Prevention Bill specifically criminalises ritual killings and human sacrifice. The proposals will be sent to the Ogun State House of Assembly for consideration, reflecting Governor Dapo Abiodun’s drive to boost investor confidence and reinforce Ogun’s reputation as a safe investment destination.
