Ogun State Government clarifies emergency response at Saapade accident
The Ogun State Government has responded to allegations regarding the speed of emergency services following an accident at Saapade on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The government dismissed claims made by Nollywood actor Kunle Afod, who suggested there was no emergency response for approximately 20 minutes.
According to a statement from Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (OGSAES) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) personnel arrived at the scene 10 minutes after the incident was reported at 12:18 p.m. The government noted that responders had to navigate the road and turn to the opposite carriageway to reach the site.
Emergency operations included the Nigeria Police and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE). Victims were transported to Victory Hospital in Ogere, while those with serious injuries were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu. The state government accused Afod of politicizing the incident to portray the administration negatively.
