Ogun State implements tree planting drive to combat deforestation
The Ogun State Government has launched initiatives to combat deforestation and promote sustainable forestry. Taiwo Oludotun, the State Commissioner for Forestry, announced that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun has planted approximately five million trees and restored full operations to the state’s nine forest reserves.
Speaking at the 10th anniversary of the Irewolede Plank Sellers and Wood Workers Association, Oludotun urged timber merchants, plank sellers, and woodworkers to partner with the government. He encouraged stakeholders to source timber from designated forest reserves and to engage in tree planting to replace harvested resources.
Association Chairman Gbemisola Adenekan commended the government for creating an enabling environment for artisans and businesses. Other stakeholders at the event emphasized the need for the wood industry to adopt modern technology to minimize environmental impact and protect biodiversity.
