Ogun State man killed after being mistaken for cultist

A man identified as Seyi was killed by suspected cultists at Ijako Market in Owode-Ijako, Ogun State, after being mistaken for a member of a rival group. The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23, when attackers reportedly entered the area searching for an individual named Dammy.

According to a police source, the victim was shot behind the market. The incident is believed to be linked to the drug trade, and authorities have launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.

The anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra alleged that the attackers, identified as NBM members, shouted ‘Aye Axemen’ and mentioned Dammy’s name before the killing. The group further claimed that Seyi was attacked with an axe following the shooting. While initial reports suggested Dammy was the victim, witnesses realized the deceased was Seyi upon inspecting the body.
