Ogun polytechnic student kidnapping triggers security outcry
On the night of July 29, 2026, suspected gunmen stormed a private student hostel on Paraga Road in Ipara, Ogun State, and abducted five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade. The attackers fired for about 30 minutes but no student was killed; several escaped through a ceiling. The polytechnic cancelled its Thursday examinations and later announced that Friday exams would proceed. The institution’s Students’ Union Government confirmed that five students were taken and reported the incident to the Nigeria Police Force.
