Ogun State Police recover stolen car taken by driver

The Ogun State Police Command has recovered a stolen 2016 Toyota Camry from a hotel in Ifo, less than eight hours after the theft was reported. The vehicle belongs to an Indian national based in the Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos.

The theft was allegedly carried out by Waidi Kolawale, a driver who had been employed by the owner only two days prior. Kolawale reportedly told his employer he was taking the car to a vulcaniser to repair a tyre before absconding with the vehicle on September 9.

Using electronic tracking, police operatives tracked the vehicle through several locations to the Ifo axis. Upon sighting the police, Kolawale fled the scene with the ignition key, but an alleged accomplice, Monday Adetunji, was arrested at the hotel where the car was found. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects had previously attempted to have a mechanic remove the vehicle’s catalyst.

Police officials have secured the vehicle and are continuing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect.
