Ogun State political figures threaten legal action over PDP candidate omission
Political figures in Ogun State, Nigeria, have threatened legal action against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following allegations regarding the unlawful alteration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership register.
Dr. Arabambi Abayomi, the Labour Party National Vice Chairman for the South-west, and Action Alliance governorship candidate Prof. Awofala Awolola have petitioned INEC to preserve the original register. They allege that an affidavit may have been used to explain the omission of PDP governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu from the document submitted for the 2027 general elections.
Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has also weighed in, alleging that political opponents sought to exclude Adebutu from the electoral candidates’ list to avoid competition at the polls. Obasanjo expressed concern that such interference poses a risk to Nigeria’s democratic order and the integrity of electoral procedures.
