Ohanaeze Ndigbo announces 2026 Igbo Day to promote unity

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the apex socio-cultural organization for the Igbo people, has announced the 2026 Igbo Day celebration to be held in Umuahia, Abia State, on September 28 and 29, 2026.

Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, the organization's Global Policy Secretary, stated that the event aims to strengthen unity and strategic engagement among Ndigbo both within Nigeria and in the diaspora. The theme for the celebration is ‘Njiko Ka’, which translates to ‘togetherness is best’.

The festivities will begin with a public lecture titled ‘Igbo Charter of Strategic Engagement for National Development’, to be delivered by economist and former presidential candidate Professor Kingsley Moghalu. The lecture will focus on a strategic document developed by a committee of over 100 professionals to articulate the development priorities, aspirations, and worldview of the Igbo people, providing a framework for engagement with the wider Nigerian society and the global community.
