Ohanaeze Ndigbo leaders call for unity and institutional renewal

Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the Obi of Onitsha, Nnaemeka Achebe, have called for institutional renewal and unity within the Igbo community. Speaking at the launch of a biographical reflection on Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leaders emphasized the need for the organization to remain relevant to future generations through collective action.

Governor Otti noted that while heritage provides legitimacy, relevance must be earned through innovation, technology, and economic development. He urged the younger generation to build upon Igbo heritage using modern institutions. Nnaemeka Achebe highlighted the importance of documenting 50 years of organized Igbo political life and warned against the risks of fragmentation and becoming an elitist organization disconnected from the people.
