O’Higgins region begins installation of wide-scale surveillance system
The O’Higgins regional government has launched a major public security project involving the installation of 169 surveillance gantries across all 33 communes in the region. Funded by an investment exceeding 10,772 million pesos, the initiative is considered unprecedented at a national level in Chile.
The system includes 438 license plate recognition devices and 209 context cameras, designed to detect vehicles with police warrants, strengthen preventive surveillance, and improve operational response times. The project also includes upgrades to two Carabineros communications centers.
Regional Governor Pablo Silva Amaya stated that the investment aims to ensure the entire region is simultaneously monitored by police through collaborative work with local mayors and law enforcement agencies.
