O’Higgins Region establishes first Civil Society Council for Heritage
The first Civil Society Council (COSOC) for Heritage has been established in the O’Higgins Region of Chile. This consultative body is designed to strengthen public heritage management across the region's three provinces by allowing civil society to provide expertise, diagnostics, and opinions on heritage matters.
Formed at the Regional Museum of Rancagua, the council is the sixth consultative body of its kind to be established in the country. The inaugural session included participation from regional cultural authorities, including Tamara Jofré, the regional minister of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, and Gabriel Salazar, the acting regional director of the Service of Heritage.
The council is composed of five representative organizations: the APO Social and Cultural Group, the Ñuke Mapu Indigenous Peoples Group, the O’Higgins Visual Artists Group, the El Progreso Neighborhood Council of Villa Triana, and the Sewell Cultural and Sports Corporation. Eugenio López, representing the Sewell Cultural and Sports Corporation, was elected as the president of the council.
