O’Higgins Region initiative promotes ‘canto a lo poeta’ in schools
The Regional Ministerial Secretariat of Cultures, Arts, and Heritage, in collaboration with the Cardenal Caro Provincial Education Delegation, held a provincial meeting to promote the preservation of ‘canto a lo poeta’ in the O’Higgins Region.
The event brought together singers of ‘lo humano y lo divino’ and educators to discuss ways to integrate this intangible cultural heritage into school curricula. Participants included Tamara Jofré, the Regional Minister of Cultures, and various local officials and researchers.
Educators emphasized the importance of teaching traditional popular poetry to younger generations to strengthen linguistic skills, such as reading, writing, and understanding poetic structures like the ‘décima’. The initiative aims to build a solid framework between the Ministry of Cultures and the Ministry of Education to ensure the tradition is passed down through the school system.
