Ohio Casino Control Commission orders withdrawal from prediction markets
The Ohio Casino Control Commission has issued a directive requiring all sports betting and fantasy gaming licensees to cease providing services to unlicensed prediction market platforms. The order, issued on October 20, specifically targets platforms offering sports event contracts within the state.
The mandate extends beyond betting operators to include suppliers, integrity monitors, testing laboratories, and liquidity providers. Licensees must confirm their compliance with the commission by October 30. Failure to comply could result in investigations leading to the suspension or revocation of gaming licenses.
This regulatory action follows earlier cease-and-desist orders issued to 10 prediction market companies on October 2. The commission’s stance is supported by a September ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, which affirmed that federal jurisdiction does not preclude state authority to enforce local gaming laws. Currently, major industry players such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics operate both sports betting and prediction market products in Ohio.
