Ohio child endangerment case: Charges dropped for Gary Siders Sr

Legal developments continue in the Ohio ‘house of horrors’ case involving the discovery of 16 children living in squalid conditions in Hamden. Christina Siders, 67, faces 19 counts of child endangerment. Her defense attorney argues that Siders was the primary provider for the household, including all other adults and children, and is seeking a modification of her $300,000 bail.

In a separate development, a judge has dismissed all criminal charges against Gary Siders Sr., 73, after determining he is mentally unfit to stand trial. Following a psychological evaluation, Judge Laina Fetherolf Rogers ruled that Siders Sr. may be unrestorable to fitness. The case has been transferred to the Vinton County Court of Common Pleas Probate Division to facilitate his placement in a treatment facility. Siders Sr. has been released from custody.

The investigation began after authorities discovered the children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years old, living in extreme neglect. Other family members, including Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders, were also arrested in connection with the case.
