Sherrod Brown wins Ohio special Senate election

Democrat Sherrod Brown has won the special U.S. Senate election in Ohio, defeating Republican incumbent Jon Husted. The victory marks a political comeback for Brown, who previously served in the Senate from 2007 to 2025 before losing his seat in 2024.

With approximately 87% to 89% of the vote counted, Brown secured roughly 48.6% of the total, while Husted received approximately 46.5%. The race was one of the most expensive in the country, involving significant spending from various interest groups, including the crypto-focused Fairshake PAC, which invested heavily to support Husted.

Husted had been appointed to the seat in January 2025 by Governor Mike DeWine to fill the vacancy left by JD Vance, who resigned to become Vice President. Brown will serve the remainder of the term originally won by Vance, meaning he will be eligible for reelection in 2028. The win is considered a significant boost for Democrats in their efforts to retake control of the Senate.
