Fall hunting seasons open in Ohio and Arkansas

Fall hunting seasons are commencing across several U.S. states, with specific regulations and registration requirements in place for migratory birds and small game.

In Ohio, the Department of Natural Resources has opened seasons for squirrel, dove, Canada goose, and teal as of September 1. Squirrel hunting remains open through January 2027, while dove season includes a primary period in September and November, followed by a second window in December. New waterfowl hunting zones are also in effect this year. Additionally, deer archery season is scheduled to begin later in the month, with specific dates for Disease Surveillance Areas.

In Arkansas, the Game & Fish Commission reminds hunters that registration with the Harvest Information Program (HIP) is required before hunting migratory birds such as dove, Canada goose, and teal. The HIP, managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, collects data to help estimate harvests and monitor population trends through surveys and hunter diaries.
