Ohio father and son convicted in murder of USPS mail carrier

A federal jury has convicted Kaprise Sledge, 24, and his father, Thomas Sledge, 44, for the premeditated murder of Jont’e Davis, a 33-year-old United States Postal Service letter carrier.

The incident occurred on March 2, 2024, in Warren, Ohio, while Davis was performing his official duties. Evidence presented during the nearly two-week trial showed that the two men stalked Davis along his delivery route for approximately 90 minutes before firing shots from a gray Dodge Ram truck at his parked mail vehicle.

In addition to the murder charge, both men were found guilty of using, carrying, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence. Investigators also discovered evidence of drug trafficking at Kaprise Sledge’s residence during the probe. Sentencing is scheduled for December 10, 2026, with both defendants facing potential life imprisonment.
