Ohio Issue 3 voter ID amendment to appear on November ballot

Issue 3, a proposed amendment to the Ohio state constitution, will appear on the ballot this November. The amendment seeks to enshrine a requirement for voters to present a photo ID when voting in person.

Ohio Republicans have actively campaigned for the measure, drawing comparisons between Issue 3 and the federal SAVE America Act. While Ohio has required photo identification for in-person voting since 2023 under a law signed by Governor Mike DeWine, Issue 3 would elevate this requirement to a constitutional mandate.

Political support for the amendment is divided. The Ohio Republican Party has shown broad backing for the measure, while Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton has expressed support, though she has not linked her position to federal Republican legislative priorities. Other statewide Democratic candidates have opposed the amendment.
