Ohio man recovers father's lost wedding ring after 50 years

Jeff Arnett, 64, has successfully recovered his father's lost wedding ring in Swanton, Ohio, nearly 50 years after it went missing. The ring was lost by John Arnett, an Ohio National Guard non-commissioned officer, during the late 1970s or early 1980s while he was washing his car in front of his home.

Before his death in 2013, John Arnett had requested that his son attempt to find the ring using a metal detector. Following his father's passing, Jeff began searching the family garden in the autumn of 2013. Over the years, his search evolved into a hobby, during which he recovered approximately 150 items, including nails, bolts, and coins, but never the ring.

The breakthrough occurred this August when Arnett used a more sophisticated metal detector. Fearing that the property, currently owned by a former family pastor, would soon be sold to new owners, he made a final attempt. Within five minutes, the device signaled an object approximately 20 centimeters underground, revealing a 14-karat white gold ring.
