Columbus Blue Jackets defeat Buffalo Sabres 6-3 in season opener
The Columbus Blue Jackets secured their first season-opening victory in five years with a 6-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres. Matthew Knies, acquired from Toronto, made a historic debut by scoring two goals and providing one assist, tying the franchise record for points in a debut.
Other scorers for Columbus included Cole Sillinger, Adam Fantilli, Sean Monahan, and Mathieu Olivier. For Buffalo, Mattias Samuelsson, Jack Quinn, and Konsta Helenius found the net.
The victory follows significant offseason roster changes for the Blue Jackets, including the trade of Kirill Marchenko, Miles Wood, and Elvis Merzlikins, and a new six-year contract for center Adam Fantilli. The Sabres will host their home opener against the Chicago Blackhawks this Saturday.
