Ohio Mother Elizabeth Siders Seeks Competency Evaluation in Child Abuse Case

Elizabeth Siders, a 33‑year‑old mother from Vinton County, Ohio, is accused of keeping 16 children in a feces‑stained, 12‑by‑12‑foot room. The family was arrested in late July after law enforcement discovered the deplorable conditions. Siders and three other family members – her husband Gary Siders Jr., mother‑in‑law Christina Siders, and father‑in‑law Gary Siders Sr. – each face 16 counts of child endangerment.

Siders’ attorney, J. Thomas Stolly, filed a motion requesting a court‑ordered mental‑health evaluation to determine her competency to stand trial and whether she was legally insane at the time of the alleged offenses. The judge has 30 days to arrange the evaluation if approved. The other three defendants have already been granted competency evaluations; Gary Siders Sr. was released on his own recognizance pending trial.
