Ohio parents face new felony charges in child neglect case

Prosecutors in Vinton County, Ohio, are seeking new serious felony charges against Elizabeth Siders following the arrest of four family members in connection with a case involving 16 children living in extreme neglect. The investigation began when authorities, while seeking DNA related to a separate sexual abuse case, discovered the children living in poor conditions, including being confined to a small, 12-by-12-foot room.

In addition to existing child neglect charges, Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders face new allegations of sexually abusing a minor relative during 2022. These new charges include two counts of sexual battery and one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Elizabeth Siders, 33, and Gary Siders Jr., 36, are currently held on $300,000 bonds. Two other adults, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, were also arrested. While defense attorneys have requested bond reductions, prosecutors have argued that Elizabeth Siders remains a “potential risk to the victims in this case.” Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
