Rep. Max Miller faces domestic abuse allegations and restraining order

Ohio Republican Rep. Max Miller is accused by his ex‑wife, Emily Moreno, of multiple incidents of domestic abuse, including placing a gun to her head, throwing scalding hot water, and causing injuries to their two‑year‑old daughter, such as a fractured collarbone and a bruised shoulder. Moreno filed a restraining order in Cuyahoga County, alleging that Miller also harassed and threatened her attorney.

Miller denies all allegations, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Moreno, and says the claims are false. No criminal charges have been filed, and the Ohio Department of Children and Family Services found no evidence of child abuse. The controversy has prompted calls from some Democratic lawmakers and former Rep. George Santos for Miller to step aside, while House Speaker Mike Johnson noted that GOP members with scandal allegations have not been removed. The allegations are affecting Miller’s reelection campaign for a seat that was previously considered safe for Republicans, raising questions about the impact on the upcoming midterm elections.
