Ohio Rep. Max Miller urged to resign amid domestic abuse allegations
U.S. Rep. Max Miller, a Republican representing Ohio's 7th Congressional District, is facing a congressional ethics investigation after his ex‑wife, Emily Moreno, accused him of domestic abuse, including throwing boiling water and pointing a gun at her and allegedly causing their two‑year‑old daughter's broken collarbone. Miller has denied all allegations and no criminal charges have been filed.
Ohio Senate President Jon Husted publicly called on Miller to resign his House seat and abandon his fall reelection campaign, saying it would be in the best interest of his daughter. Senior Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno, Emily’s father, also said Miller is unfit to serve and a danger to his granddaughter. Several other Republicans, including state director Donovan O’Neil and Senator Katie Britt, have joined calls for him to step aside.
Miller insists he will stay in the race, citing former President Donald Trump’s handling of allegations as a model. He argues that resigning would hurt his family and that he will continue to push for victory. Under Ohio law, a candidate must withdraw by a Saturday deadline to allow a replacement before the Monday filing deadline.
