Ohio authorities rescue 16 children from Siders family's filthy home

Police executing an arrest warrant at a Hamden, Ohio house discovered 16 children, aged 17 months to 18 years, confined in a cramped, bug‑ridden 12‑by‑12 room piled with feces. The children were described as "almost feral" and developmentally disabled, with no school enrollment. Their parents, Gary Siders Jr. and Elizabeth Siders, along with Gary’s parents, were arrested on multiple counts of child endangerment and could face decades‑long sentences if convicted.

The family had previously faced truancy charges in 2021 when six of the children missed school for an entire academic year, but the case was dismissed after the family could not be served. A gag order now limits officials from commenting further on the investigation. Images of the home and the arrested adults have circulated widely online, fueling public outrage.
