Ohio Siders home where 16 children rescued from squalid conditions

On June 30, Ohio law enforcement rescued 16 children from a dilapidated house in Hamden, Ohio, describing the residence as a “house of horrors.” The children, aged 18 months to 18 years, were found confined in a 12‑by‑12‑foot room littered with urine, feces and other waste, conditions officials said were worse than those for livestock.

Four adults – Gary Siders Jr., Gary Siders Sr., Christina Siders and Elizabeth Siders – were arrested on 16 counts each of child endangerment. The children were taken to hospitals, some in critical condition. Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson said the children “looked like feral animals,” while Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain noted the high presence of bacterial and human waste. The adults have entered not‑guilty pleas. Neighbors and local store employees reported the family’s frequent late‑night visits to a Dollar General, where they purchased basic supplies despite evident financial strain.
