Ohio State basketball teams begin 2026-27 season practices

Ohio State University’s men’s and women’s basketball teams have commenced their first official practices for the 2026-27 season at the Schottenstein Center.

Men’s head coach Jake Diebler noted that the roster has undergone significant changes, adding nine new players including freshman Anthony Thompson and transfers such as Justin Pippen and Jimmie Williams. Returning players include John Mobley Jr. and Amare Bynum. Diebler emphasized that the new personnel has allowed the team to adjust offensive concepts to increase versatility and unpredictability. The team aims to address previous defensive struggles regarding size and rim protection by utilizing a more physical and disruptive defensive approach.

Women’s head coach Kevin McGuff reported that the team returns four of its five starters from the previous season. The women’s team is scheduled to open its season against the University of Illinois at Chicago.
