Ohio State faces scheduling challenges for future football matchups

Ohio State Athletic Director Ross Bjork has indicated that major college football programs are showing a reluctance to schedule regular-season games against the Buckeyes beyond 2030. Bjork noted that while the program has significant matchups lined up, such as a home-and-home series against Alabama in 2027-28 and Georgia in 2030-31, there is a lack of willingness from other Power Four programs to commit to future contracts.

Bjork suggested that the evolving landscape of college football, including the SEC’s move to a nine-game conference schedule, may make major programs more hesitant to take on difficult non-conference opponents like Ohio State. The concern stems from how current scheduling metrics and playoff implications might penalize teams for playing high-stakes games.

On the field, Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin is entering his second year as a starter following a 12-2 season that included a Cotton Bowl appearance. Sayin reported improvements in his physical conditioning and offensive communication, working closely with wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to refine the team’s passing game.
