Ohio State running backs Bo Jackson and Isaiah West compete for lead role

Freshman Bo Jackson entered the 2025 season as Ohio State’s No. 1 running back, becoming the first true freshman to rush for over 1,000 yards since 2021. Entering the 2026 fall camp, sophomore Isaiah West, who posted 310 yards and two touchdowns last season, earned the first reps with the starters after a highly praised offseason. Head coach Ryan Day highlighted West’s “tremendous offseason” and noted his recovery from shoulder surgery, saying West looks his best physically. Both players recovered from shoulder injuries over the spring, and Jackson confirmed he is now at 100 percent health. The running‑back room is described as highly competitive, with players trading notes and pushing each other. New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, a former NFL coach, is also influencing the offense, drawing on his experience with players like Bijan Robinson. The team’s leadership, including veteran defensive lineman Kenyatta Jackson Jr., emphasizes a collaborative, hard‑working culture as the Buckeyes prepare for the upcoming season.
