The Ohio Supreme Court has denied a motion for reconsideration by Mackenzie Shirilla, rejecting her final attempt to appeal her 2023 double murder conviction at the state level. Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy issued the order on September 1.

Shirilla, 21, was convicted for the July 2022 deaths of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan during a car crash in Strongsville, Ohio. Prosecutors maintained that Shirilla intentionally drove her vehicle into a brick building at approximately 100 mph, noting that investigators found no evidence of braking before impact.

Shirilla has maintained her innocence, with her current legal team arguing that a medical condition called POTS may have caused her to lose consciousness behind the wheel. While state-level appeals have concluded, her attorneys have moved the case to federal court, filing a writ of habeas corpus in July alleging that her rights were violated during the original trial.
