Ohio township voters reject several property tax levies

Voters in several Ohio townships rejected various property tax levy proposals during recent elections. In Perry Township, residents declined a 1.5-mill levy intended to support the police department, which would have generated approximately $222,295 annually. Township officials noted that the existing police levy is over 30 years old and that previous funding gaps were covered by exhausted American Rescue Plan Act funds.

In Madison Township, voters rejected both a 2.5-mill fire levy, which would have generated about $542,715 annually, and a 4-mill road levy that would have brought in roughly $868,345 per year. Trustee Dan Fletcher indicated that the fire department would continue operations while officials discuss future plans.

In contrast, other local initiatives saw success. In Knox County, Danville voters approved a park maintenance levy, and the Bladensburg Fire District passed a 6-mill fire and EMS levy. Pleasant Township also approved a renewal of its road maintenance levy.
