Ohrid Council approves water and sewage tariff increases through 2029
The Ohrid Municipal Council has approved new tariffs for drinking water and wastewater removal for the regulatory period of 2027 to 2029. The decision, affecting public enterprises JP Vodovod and JP Niskogradba, involves progressive price hikes.
According to council members, water prices for households are expected to rise by 8% in 2027, approximately 11% in 2028, and about 16% in 2029 compared to current rates. For legal entities, the price of water per cubic meter and fixed fees are projected to increase by 20% by 2029.
The opposition has criticized the move, warning that these increases place an additional burden on family budgets, particularly as citizens face rising costs for electricity and gas. Public enterprise directors defended the hikes, stating they are necessitated by the methodology established by the Regulatory Commission.
