Ohrid introduces new tax regulations for tourism sector

Authorities in Ohrid are implementing new measures to regulate the tourism sector and ensure fair competition. The Public Revenue Office (UJP) is increasing cooperation with local government to ensure all income from tourism is reported and taxed.

The regulations target all types of accommodation, including apartments, rooms, and villas rented through online platforms such as Airbnb and Booking, as well as via social media. The mandate applies to both continuous landlords and citizens who rent out space occasionally, even for only a few days a month.

In addition to accommodation, the tax requirements extend to those renting recreational equipment, such as kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. The initiative aims to eliminate illegal providers, combat the shadow economy, and create equal conditions for all market participants to support the local economy.
