Ohrid Lake memorial honors 15 Bulgarian victims of Ilinden tragedy
A memorial ceremony was held at the shores of Lake Ohrid to honor the 15 Bulgarian tourists who died 17 years ago in the Ilinden boat tragedy. Flowers were laid at the monument dedicated to the victims.
On September 5, 2009, the Ilinden boat, carrying 57 people from Ohrid to the Saint Naum monastery, capsized approximately 250 meters from the shore. The incident resulted in the deaths of 15 Bulgarian citizens. The commemoration was attended by representatives of Bulgarian diplomatic missions in Skopje and Bitola, the Bulgarian Cultural and Information Center in Skopje, and local administration in Ohrid, alongside members of the Bulgarian community in North Macedonia.
