Ohrid Lake police seize 4,000 meters of illegal fishing nets

Police officers from the Ohrid Lake Border Surveillance Police Station conducted an operation targeting illegal fishing between the villages of Kalishta and Radozhda. During the inspection, authorities discovered 20 suspended fishing nets with a total length of approximately 4,000 meters.

Inside the illegal nets, police found 872 pieces of Ohrid trout (belvica), weighing a total of 116.9 kilograms. Following the directions of a public prosecutor, the lake police and the Western Border Affairs Regional Center seized both the nets and the catch. The relevant Fisheries Inspectorate has been notified of the incident. Authorities stated they will continue intensified controls to suppress illegal fishing and protect the fish stocks of Lake Ohrid.
