North Macedonia has completed its annual restocking of Ohrid Lake with 100,000 Ohrid trout units, each weighing an average of 4.2 grams. This concludes the restocking cycle for the year, following a period in August and September where 6.5 tons of fingerlings were introduced across all fishing zones—exceeding the initial target of 4.9 tons by 1.6 tons.

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Borce Serafimovski reported that 100,000 larger trout units from last year's spawning, averaging 16 grams, were also introduced to compensate for the lack of artificial spawning between 2019 and 2023. A new agreement with the Hydrobiological Institute aims to introduce an additional 1.55 million young trout by 2027.

Significant progress has also been made in restoring the summer form of the Ohrid trout, with successful experimental spawning occurring for the first time in 23 years. Additionally, the government has adopted a national management plan for the critically endangered eel, which includes measures for safe transport and the release of fingerlings.
