Ohuira Bay conservation plan to utilize three technical working groups
The Government of Mexico has announced the establishment of three technical working groups to ensure the viability of the Integral Plan for the Conservation and Sustainable Development of Ohuira Bay. This decision follows dialogues between local communities, academic advisors, and representatives from the company GPO.
The three groups will focus on specific objectives: analyzing changes to water extraction and discharge points, updating the environmental baseline, and developing an Integral Restoration and Conservation Program for the bay.
Two of these groups, focused on the environmental baseline and bay restoration, will begin activities on September 11 at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico City. These sessions will involve SEMARNAT, CONAGUA, academics, environmentalists, and community representatives. A third group, including CFE, CONAGUA, SEMARNAT, and GPO, will begin sessions on September 7 to determine the technical, legal, and administrative modifications required to ensure the ammonia plant's water usage does not impact the bay.
