OIC session in Jeddah sees Senegal and Sierra Leone reaffirm support for Palestine

During the 23rd extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Senegal and Sierra Leone reaffirmed their support for a Palestinian state.

Senegal, represented by Minister Cheikh Niang, expressed support for the rights of the Palestinian people to an independent and viable state coexisting in peace with Israel under international law. The session also saw the unanimous election of Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, a Mauritanian diplomat, as the new OIC Secretary General.

Sierra Leone's Foreign Minister, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, also addressed the council, calling for justice for Palestine and a two-state solution. Swaray emphasized the need for a stronger African voice in global decision-making and advocated for UN Security Council reform. He also sought support for Sierra Leonean candidates for key international positions, including the International Court of Justice.
