Oicatá Council Secretary charged with improper political participation

The Procuraduría General de la Nación has issued formal charges against Marcela del Pilar García Calderón, the Secretary General of the Oicatá Municipal Council in Boyacá, for alleged improper political participation.

According to the investigation, García Calderón reportedly acted as an electoral witness for a political movement during the presidential elections on May 31, 2026. While she held an official accreditation from the National Electoral Council for a specific political group, she was simultaneously serving as a municipal council secretary. The Procuraduría Provincial de Instrucción de Tunja noted that acting as an electoral witness involves defending the interests of a specific party or candidate, which may violate the restrictions placed on public servants regarding political activities. The conduct has been provisionally classified as a minor fault committed through serious negligence.
