Oihane Mateos, EITB digital news chief, dies at 45

Oihane Mateos, a prominent figure in Basque digital journalism and the head of the digital area for EITB News, has passed away at the age of 45. The Basque public broadcaster confirmed her death this Saturday, noting that the official cause has not yet been disclosed.

Mateos was a central figure in the digital transformation of EITB. In 2022, she was appointed head of digital news, where she led the content strategy for web and social media platforms and oversaw the development of Orain, the corporation's digital news platform.

Throughout her career, she held various significant roles, including reporter and presenter for 'Gaur Egun' and 'Teleberri,' and director of the program 'De Boca en Boca' on ETB2. Her colleagues and peers have expressed deep mourning, praising her professional excellence and her impact on the audiovisual sector.
