Oil India signs contract for coal-bed methane block in Singrauli
State-owned Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a Revenue Sharing Contract (RSC) for a special Coal Bed Methane (CBM) block in the Singrauli coalfield region. The block, designated as SR-ONHP-(CBM)-2026/1, covers an area of 272.14 square kilometres.
The project features promising geological prospects, with coal seam depths expected to range between 600 and 800 metres and an average seam thickness of approximately 40 metres. This venture marks OIL’s return to exploring unconventional hydrocarbon resources as part of a strategy to diversify energy operations and enhance India’s domestic gas production.
The contract was signed on 15 October 2026 in a ceremony attended by high-level officials, including the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri.
