Oil leak detected in Eloi Gulf off the coast of Louisiana
An ongoing oil leak has been detected in a well located in the Eloi Gulf, off the coast of Louisiana in the Gulf of Mexico. The leak, which was identified on October 13, originates from the valve section of a well owned by Cox Operating.
While the exact volume of crude oil released into the ocean has not yet been calculated, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has begun investigating the movement of the oil slicks. There are significant concerns that wind and currents may carry the oil toward the coastline, potentially impacting coastal ecosystems and natural habitats.
Although previous satellite imagery and underwater inspections in the Eloi Gulf had indicated signs of oil presence, it has not been definitively confirmed if those prior incidents are linked to this current continuous leak. As of the latest reports, it remains uncertain whether the leak has been fully contained or stopped.
