Trump's Iran attack postponement triggers global oil price plunge FAST-MOVING

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a planned strike on Iran was postponed, citing requests from Iran and other Middle Eastern states for more time to reach a deal that would fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz and end Tehran's nuclear threat. The announcement sent oil markets sharply lower on Monday. Brent crude futures fell $4.08 to $83.85 a barrel, a 4.64% drop, while West Texas Intermediate slipped $4.01 to $80.66 a barrel, down 4.74%. Some reports recorded even larger declines of about 5% for both benchmarks in Asian trade.

The price slide came as OPEC+ approved an increase of roughly 188,000 barrels per day in production quotas starting in September, and the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations logged three additional tanker attacks since Saturday. Two Saudi‑flagged tankers successfully transited the Bab el‑Mandeb Strait over the weekend, showing that Red Sea traffic remains active. Negotiations between Iran and Oman on a new shipping arrangement through the Strait of Hormuz are reported to be in their final stages.
