Oil prices fall on US-Iran diplomatic hopes

Oil prices fell significantly on Friday as markets reacted to reports of advancing diplomatic negotiations between the United States and Iran. The potential for a de-escalation in the Middle East has raised hopes for the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran has presented a new proposal to Washington, which includes a seven-day timeline for the reopening of the Strait. The proposal reportedly seeks the lifting of US sanctions on Iranian oil and an end to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports. However, sources indicate that Iran remains unwilling to show flexibility regarding its nuclear program, regardless of whether the US accepts the maritime proposal.

Crude benchmarks saw notable declines, with WTI falling 2.33% to $92.41 per barrel and Brent dropping to approximately $104.32 per barrel. Despite the downward trend driven by diplomatic optimism, market analysts warn that physical supply tightness and ongoing regional tensions, including Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabian infrastructure, continue to provide a floor for prices.
